Spied: 2013 BMW M6 Convertible

The BMW M6 Convertible has been spied testing ahead of its debut at theGeneva Motor Shownext month.

The 552bhp soft-top is the most powerful production BMW ever built, and takes the 650i M Sport – which at £77,715 already costs £4,675 more than an M5 – and sharpens it up.

These photos reveal that the Convertible will follow the formula established by the M6 Coupe and Gran Coupe stablemates, which have already been spotted testing.

It has the same aggressive front and rear aprons as the M6 Coupe photographed alongside it. Four round exhausts replace the 650i’s pair of trapezoidal pipes at the rear.

A set of 19-inch alloys housing cross-drilled brakes are clear from these shots, while we’d expect the M6 Convertible will follow the lead of other M cars in not using run-flat tyres.

It will be powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, which will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. We would expect a 0-62mph time of around 4.6 seconds, which is slightly slower than the lighter Coupe’s estimated 4.4 seconds.

As to equipment, xenon headlights and a head-up display will be standard, with a Harman Kardon audio system offered as an option.

The M6 Convertible is expected to be priced at around £90,000 when it arrives in showrooms this summer. For more details click here.
